Young Jesus (Published)

A few weeks ago I kept mentioning about "projects" and finally one of them that was done is published. It's a fictional tale of Young Jesus for Catechism. It was initially planned to be a 7 black and white illustrations, quick and clean. And that the publisher wanted to have someone who knows nothing about Catechism to do the illustration. So I took the job, and I made 9 draft illustrations and brought them in the following day, the publisher liked it and asked for another page with full colors. I redrew the entire illustrations in ink, and colored the one for the cover page and brought them all back 3 days later and waiting for instructions for any editing or modification(eventhough in my version, Jesus is clearly drawn in Manga style). Later I found that all 10 illustrations required no further work and ready to print. I was so excited and wanted to share this way earlier, but I am only doing this today because I just got paid for the job today. ^^ This is the first time I ever get paid for doing art, and I LOVE IT!
This is the printed cover-page.

This is a photo taken of my work before it's being submitted. You could see a wee bit of the black and white illustrations there.
This is one of the black and white illustrations inside the book. =)

  1. I can't tell you how proud and honored I am to have a husband who is so talented even though you knew nothing about being Catholic (I hope I helped a little in that area).

Anyways, great great job, and next time we go see Maw, we better bring this!

  4. Cool artwork (I love your manga influence) and beautiful colours (although I like the original better than the print version - but that's just how it is with printing I guess...).
And congrats on your first "artist payment"! (I actually can't believe this, looking at your awesome work... leaves me with little hope of *ever* being able to live at least partly from what I'm doing...)

  6. Great Alex, congratulations for being published, being paid, and being framed and well displayed in your Uncle's house. It is all very rewarding.
Your illustrations are so good and I think that the manga style is a brilliant idea. You are in the tradition of all the stained glass masters who were doing these colorful and vivid images of Jesus in the middle-age cathedrals.

  25. Wow, congratulations Alex. This is so wonderful. I do see the Manga in him which will make it easier for lots of kids to identify with him. Nothing like getting paid for work you had fun doing! But the best part is simply that they liked your work and you didnt even have to alter it.
