Lost

I let our cat Oni out last night at 11pm because he wanted to, he never came back. It's been 24 hours now, and all I could think about is if he's okay, has he got water and food? Chances of him going deep into the woods is pretty high, and I don't think his survival rate is that high since he's been a house cat almost all the time. My wife and I are both very depressed at present time, and we're preparing for the worst, that he's not coming back.
No matter where you are Oni, know that we will always love you, and that you have a home here. You can come home anytime you wish, our hands are always opened for you.

Thank you all for your comments and wishes. I won't be hearing anything from Texas within this couple of weeks although the interview was good, the sad news aside I actually might have a chance to work in Mississippi still. I will keep you guys updated.

  4. Don't give up hope Alex, our cat was away for a few days as he got into somebody's basement and the owner locked him up by acident; he reappeared three days later when the owner reopened the door !! I do hope the same kind of incident has happened to him and that you will soon have him back !
Keep us posted for Oni and your job ... (I didn't dare ask about the interview) I keep my fingers crossed for you both !
    Hugs

  6. I feel you! How often have we worried about our cat(s) not coming home! It's a terribly helpless situation - just being able to wait and hope. But cats do often go on bigger adventures and come back perfectly happy! Our cat is ridiculously curious and she always jumps into our neighbors open windows and sometimes accidentally gets locked in. I hope Oni is fine and finds his way back to you! <3
Oh, and the drawing is just wonderful, in a very sad way. Very emotional and touching. *hugs*

  7. Alex, Sorry to hear about your cat. I agree with the others, he may still come back. Your sketch is very expressive and well done. Good luck on the job interviews, and I hope you enjoy working on the commissions in the meantime.

  11. Yeah, we hope he's just out on an adventure too...

I've had lots of cats before, and they all did that for days at a time, but I've never had an inside cat before, so I dunno if it's any different.

  12. I am so sorry Alex! I do hope he comes back very soon! And good luck with the interviews; I hope you land a job with a company that you really like, in an area that you love.

I've been away from my computer a lot lately, but I wanted to thank you for that last comment. That really made my day for you to say that!

  13. Try to keep your chin up. I had a cat, properly named "Hobo", who would live in the woods around our house for sometimes MONTHS at a time. Hopefully Oni will come home soon....

  14. So sorry to hear about Oni..you captured the worry in your picture so well, that I was struck with the same emotion. I love the seated drawing (of Tanna?) I agree with the others that cats often come back - and Oni will of course act nonchalantly, like he was never gone, and look at you both like you were crazy to worry. I hope so.

  15. I've never had cats but I've had a dog who liked to breakout every garbage day. Even knowing that she was garbage hunting never kept us from worrying about her, so I do understand how you feel! I hope she returns back to those that love her soon!

  16. Nice sketch Alex, hope he comes back soon. Don't give up hope they do go for adventures and are instinctively good at running away or hiding from trouble (my black cat ran up a tall tree yesterday to keep out of the way of two dogs and I let him figure how to get down himself)

  17. Oh I really feel for you and your wife - I really hope Oni comes home soon. Every now and again my old cat used to do this and each time I would worry myself silly. They are such independent, inquisitive souls..... don't give up yet. Keeping everything crossed for you x

  19. Your drawing genuinely reflects the sadness you're feeling. Any sign of Oni yet? Hope for the best.

  20. Sadly no sign of him anywhere. I am not losing any hope yet because after all these, I've learned that cats do like to go on their escapades every once in a while.
Thank you all for your kind wishes and for sharing your experience. I deeply appreciate it.

  21. awww...that's awful, but cats can be like that! They're too independant! It's what we love most about them, i think, but one of the most infuriating traits. I once lost a cat for six weeks. Someone took a liking to him, and took him home, but once he finally got outside, he made his way back home.
I'm sure Oni will be home soon.
Thanks so much for your comment on my kitty painting, too.
    CheerS!!

  22. I am so sorry your cat is missing. I hope he comes home soon. Sometimes they do stay out for a couple of days or so. After losing one cat, I do keep my current one in the house. She seems content with staying in. I hope Oni comes home and you can keep him in where he is safe.

  25. I'll add my best wishes Oni comes back home too. Your picture says it all -- "Sad". I hope the sadness lifts.

  26. When we moved into our home, we agreed to take over the care and feeding of the cat they were leaving behind. As soon as we moved in, he went missing....for one full month. Finally he returned and we have had him now for seven years. Keep the faith, my friend.

  28. Hi Alex, I'm sorry to hear about your cat; I do hope he comes home. I am most impressed by your powerful illustrations; expressive! And, I particularly like the gesture of the seated figure.

  29. Hi Alex - I'm so sorry to hear about your little cat. I have two and a manic cat lover so I know how it feels when one goes missing. I hope you are ok and I also wanted to say how lovely and encouraging to others you are. Ive really noticed it and I really enjoy looking at your work X

  30. I take it your kitty never came home. I'm so sad for you.

  31. It's been 13 days and Oni's still missing. I want to believe that he's still out there, I still open the door every now and then hoping that he'd just jump out and run into the house like he always does... it's not happening, and most likely it'll never happen.
I'll keep waiting until the day we have to move, it will be November 1st.
Oni, wherever you are... come back soon
