Concept : Cover art

It's been some busy weeks for me, I wasn't able to just sit down and draw at all. Long gone the free hours during my night shift. Things just wouldn't stop popping up at work(and was even engulfed in a life threatening scenario as well! Don't worry, I wasn't hurt in that event) and constantly require my attention as an employee. Day shift is even more hectic, and the sad thing is that, it's not going to get any better. -_-
That aside, I am just happy that I was able to get back in touch with my publisher. The concept drawings of family which I did earlier this year is still valid(I am surprised!), and there are still things needed to be worked. They stressed on the blacklines of the cover page, and they gave me the general idea of how the author wanted it, so here's my take on it.
(The sketch of the concept in ink, pencils and office highlighters)
(Blackline version in ink, to be approved)

I am not sure if they will accept it so we'll see.
Thank you all so much for your comments. I really appreciate all of them and your time. I will try my best to spend more time drawing. My moleskine is once again being ignored due to other more significant responsibilities....sigh.

  1. Hi Alex,

I think your rendering is lovely and hope it is well received.

I've missed you - didn't realize you had been in danger - just knew you were stressed at work.

I hope things quiet down a bit so I can see more of your art, selfish of me, I know.

    xoxo

  2. Let us put all of our nuclear power plants on fault lines, in the paths of hurricanes and tornadoes, and tzunamis, etc. Sure. Let's live dangerously. Sure.

So glad you are still with us. It would greatly sadden me if I were to learn that you are no longer in this world.

Your blackline drawing is amazing! I have spent a few days parked at a building I was attracted to (drawing architecture is not my thing). If I am slow on everything else, I am really slow with this. Anyway, it has a wonderful style - very friendly. I hope they pick you.

  5. I hope they accept it. It's a great drawing. It certainly says "a family lives here".

My son works at San Onofre in California. I worry a tiny bit but I worry a lot more about him for surfing as he has seen a shark and surfed in some pretty large waves!

  7. The illustration looks great, I like the 2nd one with the childrens slides etc, it feels even more like a family home with toys about.
No wonder you feel stressed at work!

  8. Glad you are still around, Alex! I do hope things may soon quieten down a little so that you can get on with your sketching!
Sometimes life in my corner of the world can seem a little mundane but when I hear about the awful weather events in other parts, 'mundane' can seem quite appealing.
I love the blackline drawing - hope all goes well with that. ('Blackline' is a new word for me!)

  24. Hi Alex, I hope this goes through, been having problems with leaving comments... I really like the rendering of your work, and the shades and high lights (even when you just use a few lines, they are all there). I like the second house the best, but I wish you luck with both of them. Cant wait to see all this in print form, its exciting. As always, love your art!!! And thank you so much for your comments you left in my blog, they mean a lot : )
