Ship in Fog
Just a quick sketch and playing with tones on my Moleskine. I have not use some of the pencils I bought and thought that I should let them spend some of their purpose-built led of different grades. It's the scene I saw of the movie "Shutter Island" which is right in the beginning before they show Leonardo DiCaprio puking ^^
Thanks again everyone for your comments and feedback! I greatly appreciate them all, and I am not sure what was the reaction of Uncle Lee, I need to visit them soon to find out. Other projects are still put on hold, I've got so much more to post but I just can't do that yet... =) Does anyone know how that feels like?

I love the the way this comes out of the mist at you. Sometimes a few pencils is all you need to create something really good.
ReplyDeleteAlex,
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. I can almost hear the foghorns in the distance.
Is it charcoal?
xoxo
Wonderful stuff, Alex!! I love the moodiness you've created with the pencils! I haven't seen Shutter Island (it's next on my Netflix list), so I was afraid to read your description too closely in case of a "spoiler" :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is fantastic...so subtle! You really captured the atmosphere of the shot...very moody.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful - such a romantic look!
ReplyDeleteI love the haze-zy quality, makes me "feel" the fog!
ReplyDeleteExcellent drawing and very expressive.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I know what it feels like to be behind in posting. I think you are doing a great job with your postings.

ReplyDeleteWow Alex, this is mysterious and gorgious!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lost and found edge stuff!
ReplyDeleteAnd yea...I know exactly what you're talking about. I need to hire somebody to update my blog regularly. Or maybe a student volunteer? An internship in exchange for the priceless opportunity to dwell in my shadow? Oh, i'm becoming sarcastic, sorry :)
Wonderful shadowy image - very evocative of a foggy night.
ReplyDeleteAlex- this is spectacular! Such an artful rendition- painterly, ethereal, stunning.
ReplyDeleteI'm in continuous awe of your talent.
What atmosphere! The sea spray, and the ship - so well done. Love how you used all the pencils of different grades. I've done that and it is great when it is done right, like this one. Wow. You always surprise me.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Alex! I love the soft lost and found edges. It's very moody and romantic.

Love the most and all! It looks good... Oh I can totally understand how it feels with all the 'to-post'! But that's a good feeling too, considering you are working more live than on the net!! :)

Great sketch (again) Alex, really atmospheric. A perfect tonal study, you really get a sense of the mist enveloping the ship.
