I haven't been doing a lot of sketches lately as I've been busy packing and getting ready to move to Mississippi while celebrating my 32nd birthday last weekend and my father-in-law's 3 days later. While I've also been putting one of my projects on hold waiting for my client to provide further information and instructions, browsing through my drawing board, this one which I did months ago stuck me pretty hard.
I realized that Oni's been gone for 22 days. I know that life has to move on, my heart stays and still waiting for him, just like the teddy bear waiting for its master, time just stops. Although we've picked a new cat for adoption in the shelter, and about to bring him home next week, I know that I will love this one as much as Oni, but it will never be the same.
That aside, something wonderfully dropped in my mailbox yesterday and it came all the way from the UK.
It's a beautiful package from Lesley Purcell. And she's such a sweet person, giving us a super early Christmas card(the polar bear) which I just love! I can't see anything that I don't like about her art work, and if you haven't visited her site yet, I suggest you do HERE. Thank you Lesley!
Oh that's a sweet sketch! I am so sorry about Oni but am very pleased to hear you are getting a new kitty. You two are starting a new adventure and I am glad that you will have a new furry friend to help with the transition.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely package from Lesley, lucky you!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday Alex, sorry there's no news of Oni :(
Thats such a cute sketch (and so sad at the same time). Im so sorry for your loss, and I know the new cat wont take Onis place... But it will rather give you new love and new better times ahead. And a big belated Happy Birthday to you. Thanks for stopping by my blog, I love the paw print idea on the boxes.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry, Alex, to hear that Oni has not come home! I hope the new kitten will bring you joy, although it will be of a different sort. Your sketch is so wistful, so wonderful!!! HUGS from Texas!
ReplyDeleteGreat sketch
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Alex....sorry to hear Oni's not come back. Good luck with the move and new job.
Happy birthday! You are really 32? Thought you were such a kid! :) Love your sketch of the bear - love it. I echo Mari's comment re Oni. Good luck with everything in your new job, new place, etc.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday Alex !! You are my children's age !!
ReplyDeleteYour sketch with the teddy bear is so moving and so well related to your personal situation! It is sad Oni hasn't come back yet. Your new friend will hopefully help you both start anew. Best of luck for this new life ahead!
I wish all the best to you in this transition/move to a new place and job! Thankfully the internet will allow us to continue enjoying your wonderful drawings! This little sketch is precious and so full of emotion. Happy Belated Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Alex!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the loss of Oni, and I hope your new cat will give you joy and love.
Your sketch is delightful and also so expressive!
That is a very sweet sketch and I can imagine it would have hit you hard to see it again. I can imagine it is difficult to move knowing Oni is staying behind. That is sweet you are checking for him. I'm sorry
ReplyDeleteHappy B'day, Alex!
ReplyDeleteHope the new kitty will give you joy and happiness as Oni did.
Belated Happy Birthday Alex.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Oni is still missing.
It's a sweet sketch. Happy belated birthday! Let us see a sketch or photo of your new kitty soon, okay? Let's just hope Oni (my brother's nickname is Oni as his name is a Hawaiian one, Keoni)was found be someone who has given him a new home (not that they should have but!).
ReplyDeleteSo sorry that there has been no sign of Oni. A new cat cannot take her place but will be another lovely companion. Belated birthday wishes and good luck for your move.
ReplyDeleteOh, the little teddy bear waiting is just too sad. My step mother calls cats and dogs "sadness traps" and in my experience it's very true.
ReplyDeleteLesley's work is beautiful.
Hope you have lots of fun and sweetness with the soon to arrive little cat!
Alex, thank you for commenting on my blog... your work is fantastic! Can't wait to see more once you are moved and settled. I hope your heart heals soon from the loss of your dear kitty. Pets are a huge part of our lives.

Hi Alex, Good luck with your move. I am sorry about Oni; it's tough. Happy belated birthday and what a gracious, wonderful package from Lesley Purcell. Thoughtful and stunning cards!
ReplyDeleteGlad the parcel arrived safe and sound, if I had known it was going to be your birthday I would have made one of them a birthday card! So very sad about Oni, I hope new kitty settles in with you very quickly and that your move has gone / goes really smoothly!
ReplyDelete:o)
So sorry to hear about Oni, Alex! Wishing you the best at your new place, with your new job and your new cat! You still don't live too too far and if I'm ever passing through I'll have to give you a call!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Oni; your teddy bear sketch is so poignant.
ReplyDeleteOops - wrong log in... it's Jenna. Thanks for commenting on my website yesterday :)
ReplyDeleteBittersweet, indeed, I bet... moving to a new state for a new job, and yet... having to leave any hope behind of Oni finding you. So sorry you haven't found him yet.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Alex!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your cat. Nice drawing!
Hi Alex,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my site. How are things with you?
Is everything ok? Did the move go well? Missing your art Alex!
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're settling in well. I know when I moved - just to another place in the same city - I didn't get any art done for some time. I miss seeing your updates, though! Hopefully you're able to make and post drawings soon.
tedThanks so much, Alex...your work is wonderful...!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear your feline friend hasn't returned. I know just what that feels like. The sweet bear drawing captures the mood perfectly. Best of luck on your move!
