I mentioned that the last post was a little preview to this one, and it was more of a practice to this one. Revathi has been a great family friend, and a wonderful host. We went to the same college back in Malaysia, and she's the best friend of one of my really good friends. I am sure glad to have her to guide me around Houston to places to eat where I should go when I do crave for a taste of Malaysia. So I would like to thank her for just that, and I did promise that I would draw her 'something'.
Final : Strathmore Bristol Vellum (9"x12")
Initial sketch
Working on the left.
Working on the right, and some details.
I gave it to her and Sanjay today, and I think they like it. It's probably not worth a lot, but at least it's something you can't get at Wal-Mart right? :)
It's my mom's 63rd birthday today, I think I am going to call her and chat a little. Again, thank you all for your time and comments, and I hope you enjoy the process, as always, happy drawing!
Great to see you back again Alex, and with a great drawing... I bet they were really happy with it, best gift ever as its one of a kind. Im amazed how well you can draw open smiles, sometimes I find them hard to draw.
ReplyDeleteBig happy birthday to your mum, she's very young still : ) Hope you had a great chat with her.
Thanks Mari. :) Yeah they liked it. Had a good chat with Mom and I am so excited that I'll be seeing her and the rest of the family next year.
DeleteHey Alex! It's so good to see you drawing here! Lovely portraits here! I am sure they were pleased! I hope you and your wife are doing well! Looking forward to seeing more of your drawings!
ReplyDeleteWe're doing good Jennifer :) Thanks for asking. I'd love to do more drawings soon too.
DeleteBeautiful portraits Alex. I knew they would love it to pieces!! I have been waiting to see some more of you drawings and you didn't disappoint!
ReplyDeleteI am glad I didn't disappoint ^^. I've been wanting to do some old photos, and still counting on my friend to look for them. We'll see
DeleteNice portraits :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue. ^^
DeleteReally lovely drawing - great beauty and depth. Hope you have time for more drawing soon :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane, I really hope that I can squeeze out more time than what I have in hand right now.
DeleteCongratulations with your mum's birthday! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd great portrait! i love to see how from a sketch it becomes a final piece.
Welcome back!!!
Thanks and I am glad you enjoyed the process. I hope I am able to deliver the message to people that, if it doesn't look good in the beginning, don't give up just yet ^^
DeleteWell it's worth six hours of your time at a minimum. I enjoy the boys shirt and her sunglasses. You really nailed that the shirt is soft and the glasses cold and hard.
ReplyDeleteYeah that's so true. But it was fun doing it, so I guess in a way it's win-win for us.
DeleteAlex, so glad to see you here. Nice drawing, and a lovely friendship to honor!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate it Melissa. Revathi is a great friend, and this is the least I could do for her. :)
DeleteHi Alex. That is fantastic! It would take me a lot more that six hours to come anywhere near something like this.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
Stew.

ReplyDeleteThey do Sandra, I gave it to them before I posted this one up :) Thank you.
DeleteI bet they are very, very pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Birthday to your mum.
Yes they are Sue :D
DeleteThanks for the Birthday wish
Hey that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stefano
DeleteThis is yet another incredible drawing. Alex, I am amazed at your talent. Please never stop drawing...you have been given something wonderful to share with the world.
ReplyDeleteYou're too kind Cindy. :) I love drawing and I have never planned on stopping. This IS my retirement plan and I will keep doing this til the day I can't hold a pencil anymore.
DeleteYour drawing turned out gorgeous! Looking forward to more in the future. Hopefully your schedule will give you the chance.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rebecca, I hope so too that I will have more time for art.
DeleteA lovely gift & beautifully done Alex!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :)
DeleteGlad you have a blog again. Of all the artist and art I missed while I was "gone" was you and your art. So glad I can share art with you again. A wonderful drawing. Your gift will be a priceless treasure to your friends. Definitely not something they can get anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteWow! I really appreciate that thought Ramona :) And it's great to be back and posting again albeit it won't be as frequent as I have wanted, but at least I am keeping the blog alive.
DeleteHi, Alex, welcome back! And thank you for sharing the exciting process of how your works grow in your hands! The result is great, and there's no doubt your friend will appreciate it as a wonderful gift!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the process too Lucia and thanks. Love your artwork too.
DeleteI didn't know you had a blog until just now!! Saying we like the drawing is a major UNDERSTATEMENT. We LOVR it! And can't stop showing it off. Also enjoy telling everyone that my friend Alex drew it! Thanks so much Alex. You don't owe me anything but thanks for taking the time to do this. Its better than any material gift anyone can ever give. So happy you are here in Texas now. Thanks again! Need to talk to you about how best to frame it.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks Rev. You can frame it how ever you want it really. The size of the paper is 9x12" so you probably need a custom frame or you could also cut the white portions away. Those people at the frame shops would know what to do best. ;)
DeleteAlso its worth is PRICELESS! You are extremely talented my friend.
ReplyDeleteNo value right? I know I know :p
DeleteIt's no big deal, just a dude with pencils and papers.
