I looked surprised, because that's the expression I had when my bestfriend decided to do a Google Hangout with me, with his newborn baby girl, and they are 10,000 miles away. It was the first time I felt so connected to his family and home again. I can't wait to go back next year and play with this little girl.He snapped a picture of me and his girl, and it quickly became our little 'thing' :) I may looked surprised, but that warm fuzzy feeling which I felt inside the whole time, can still be felt every time I think about it.

Here I'd like to congratulate my bestfriend, his wife, and the little baby girl. I am so happy for you guys words can't describe.Thank you all for visiting and for your comments.
Wonderful self-portrait Alex! The delight and joy you describe, certainly comes across in your portrait!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennifer :) I thought I looked wayyy too surprised.
DeleteAaaah, another wonderful portrait! I love it. And I really like that shade of red! <3
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should try a selfportrait as well some time. Seems safer than sketching someone else (I'm always afraid the result will insult the person ^^°).
You should totally try it Evi! I mean, you have all the skills, just have not see you do an actual portrait of yourself. Safe or not safe, just dot it! :)
DeleteA happy self portrait...usually they are so serious, well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cathy :)
DeleteGreat self portrait!! It is so good when we can connect with family and friends from back home {I also have family and friends cross the pond}... I hope you get to see your friend and his family again soon.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah Mari, I love Hangout, Facetime, Skype... whatever which could help me to see my family works good for me.
DeleteHi there! Nice to see you. As always, wonderfully done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Patsy
DeleteIt's a lovely portrait.
ReplyDeleteIsn't technology wonderful!
Yep, technology sure is sweet ;)
DeleteHello Alex,
ReplyDeleteWow...great drawing!
I know what E*phi means - I always think that when I draw someone they are not going to like it and I would hate to upset anyone. I keep thinking about using colour for a portrait but it would need to be a self-portrait...mind you there is a possibility that I would upset myself ;-)

DeleteHi, Alex !
ReplyDeleteFantastic portrait! I'm so pleased to actually "see" you !!
You have captured your happy expression so well and you just look "real" !
Thanks Martine. Yeah...I definitely wasn't faking my expression there, that's why I decided to do it.
DeleteReally delightful, zestful, happy portrait! Your skills are amazing, and this is really a delight to look at. I am glad you got over your hesitation and decided to do it :)
ReplyDeleteAwww... thank Jane. I am not sure if I will do it ever again, I am not particularly a self-obsessive person :Þ
DeleteGreat Alex, fantastic portrait, t and love the portraits below too. Happy to see you're back into drawing
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra, it's great to be doing this again. It happens everytime I move...the hiatus I mean :(
DeleteHey it's you! It must be so hard to be away from the things that are most familiar and dear to you. Technology really helps us stay connected it's not just an advertised statement you've lived the real thing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I'll be heading home next year to visit all these people, it's going to be an awesome 2-3 weeks!
DeleteNice sketch! And colors really make it pop! You should certainly experiment more with them :D I always find it hard to draw a self portrait.. because you are aware of more details of your face, and therefore end up recognizing yourself much quicker haha
ReplyDeleteTotally know what you mean there. :) It's something every artist should experience at least once for sure!
ReplyDeleteI cannot know for sure, but it looks like a great self-portrait to me. I tried a self-portrait once, and ended up looking younger and more muscular than I am - so it was a success! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I was with it, but had to look up Google Hangout - too cool - 10,000 miles away; it's as though you were talking to the astronauts (although they would be closer). I'm sure it will be great to be home - there is only one home, and I expect it is very different from here.
Hahaha. If I do another self-portrait in not too near future, I will make myself looking younger and more muscular :D Thanks Dan, and yep.. Hangout is a cool deal!
DeletePlease don't be so hard on yourself! Accept the wonderful gift that you have. The self portrait is a winner. Don't we all sit like that when playing with the computer?!
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you Sandra. Yeah, I love my computer, and I probably need a new one in a couple of years time.
DeleteSo wonderful to "meet you" in your self-portrait. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirley. :) I am...the same I guess, just looking a little surprised maybe.
DeleteI think it's absolutely wonderful :). Nicely done.
ReplyDelete:) Thanks Ankya
