Change

My friend showed me a clip of a Japanese show, showing how dogs can change their expressions so rapidly, reacting towards threats or sometime even affections... I found that so intriguing! I've always liked wolves for some reason, and even when I was little, I've always like dogs that look like wolves... Husky is definitely one of the breed. So here's a sketch of the husky from that video, in pen and pencil.

Yeah I know he looks kinda mean, but Click the video here to see what I mean ^^

I am also starting to get used to drawing full-spread on my Moleskine too, after discovering something called "Fixatives".
Oh and thank you all for the comments on my library sketch, and the cards request. I've posted all those that are in the US but for those outside US I'm going to do that today. The people in the post office will have to spare me a little time considering I am sending to so many different countries ^__^

  3. Great sketch. You really caught his wild, angry, threatened expression. My kids tell me that I change my expressions quickly too! :)

  6. He's great! The "evil" expression is awesome, very realistic! "Wolf-style" dogs have always been my favorites too! A yoga-friend of mine has a beautiful (but nevertheless hopelessly clumsy and stupid) one that *really* looks like a wolf - I think it's called something like "Czech wolfhound"?

The video is freaky! That chihuahua gives me goosebumps... XD

PS: SO looking forward to that card! (And I already have an idea what to send you back in return! <3)

  12. Beautiful work, you got his expressions so well! Portraiting animals is as difficult as portraiting people (to me, at least). I'm going to watch the video now!
And, while I'm here, also want to say I love your moleskine page in your post below, it looks great! Love the thick linework and composition!

  17. That dog looks so fierce! As we say around here - 'I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him!'

  18. Dogs really do speak with their faces just like we do. So many people think dogs are just stupid so don't bother looking for the expressions. Nice job on your drawings here.

Thanks for stopping by my blog too. I can see how you'd be missing your family. I spent two years in Japan when my husband was in the navy and not being able to just drive to family events was really hard. I would like to live closer than 6 hours away but it's better than having to take a long air trip. It's good to have family you can miss though and now we have skype, cell phones and other means of being in close contact so that's better now even though not quite the same.

  22. Aaahhhh... fixatives!!! (light bulb going off in head) - makes perfect sense!! I really hate when my pages smudge together.

Alex, somehow I missed lots of posts of yours that weren't showing up in my Google Reader. I'll have to check the link I have for you to make sure it's valid. Sorry I missed so many of your wonderful drawings, including this one.
