I did a little full-spread sketch on my Moleskine while I was at the library waiting for Tanna. I sat pretty far away from people to observe them, it was rather fun trying to sketch people when they move a lot. I learned one thing for sure, if you want to sketch/draw from life you better do it fast or you'll lose it ^^
And if you remember a while ago(3 months to be exact) I brought my sketches of the Breaux Bridge town and I-10 West to a local print shop in Breaux Bridge and they said they'd make prints out of them... and FINALLY they are done! =) They are placing them in their shop, and some in a tourist center on the basin too, and they gave me about 20 of each for me to give to friends and family. I am so sorry lost the list of the names of people who requested it and those I'd like to send to, so it'd be great if you could tell me again by commenting below or write to me with your full address to aleksitanninen (at) yahoo (dot) com.
Oh yeah, since they are pretty limited, you'll have to pick which one you like. It's going to be first come first serve basis and once one has ran out then you'll know when you're getting the other one instead. ^^ For those who'd like to trade, you're more than welcome to do so, just let me know through the email and I'll send you my address. For trading though, you'll have to let me know if you want me to write on the cards, or you want them wrapped in the plastic sleeves as they are. I am so excited! =)
lovely stuff, Alex!!
ReplyDeleteNice to know that!!!! And your library sketch is awesome too... I have never sketched in a library - I was planning to go there or to a cafe this weekend to see if I can sketch something there (after I shirk off my nervousness that is..).. Yours has come at the right time, as inspiration :) :)
ReplyDelete(Do I qualify as a prospective to receive your print? They both are so cool..)
Great people sketch, Alex! I've done this tons of times at places like Subway, McD's, Barnes and Noble. In the winter time, the small group of artists I hang out with often goes to the food court at the local mall to draw people. It's loads of fun and yes, you have to hurry - We're thinking taverns might be a better place, mid-day, people linger longer there.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your library sketch is awesome! Pencil and markers??
ReplyDeleteAs for the cards, if I'm not too late, I will let you choose because they are both wonderful! When I do something worth trading, I'll send it to you!
Really like how you filled the page with the sketches. Yeah! on the cards.
ReplyDeleteGreat drawings! How fun! I know what you mean about sketching people fast. It's amazing how much people move even if they're doing something sort of sedentary like reading.
ReplyDeleteI sent you an email, but what I wanted to add:
ReplyDeleteImpressive how fast you are! (Or did you wait so long? *g*) I already realized too: it's really difficult to draw moving people (especially if you're not too good at drawing them in general... as in my case). Also, you have to be quick even when you sketch a little pavillion. Last Tuesday I started doing so (because I was bored, waiting for a friend) but 3 min later she already arrived... I wonder how all those life sketchers manage to finish in time...
Wow, Alex: just amazing your librery sketch! Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt's very difficult to me drawing people on movement...I guess it's a skill for real artists! :)
Love your cards to...Congratulations!! ;-)
Great library sketch Alex....still haven't sketched in public myself for a long time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting the cards printed...any plans for your next range?
Those library sketches are great, I just can't draw people quickly or if they move. I suppose it's practice?
ReplyDeleteThe cards look great Alex, we're proud of you!
I'd love to have one, but only if you have enough and don't mind posting to Italy!
I love your library sketches!
ReplyDeleteAnd your cards are beautiful! I'd be happy to trade, if you have enough. Just let me know :-)
As the others have already said your library sketch is very well done. I am surprised by how much detail you managed to capture.
ReplyDeleteYou're on a roll with the commercial projects. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd, the library portraits are great. The library is a good place to find subjects (no pun intended!).
Your library drawings are just awesome! You are amazing!! nancy
ReplyDeleteBack home for two weeks at least and I 've just seen your sketch at the library, it's just terrific ! I wish I could manage portraits so quickly, but I'm far too slow and people move too fast !
ReplyDeleteCongratulations !
well done ;) not sure if u still has them (cards)? I like the right one ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! Yes I'd love to trade with you! Haven't been to busy drawing, been swamped with design work. Email me! You can email me through my block under view my complete profile! Congratulations!!!!

PS: I've saved EDM postings since June 22 because I want to read them all! Maybe I should delete them all and start new. Nows there so much pressure to start where I left off!!! :-)
I love your arrangement/composition!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular spread...awesome composition! Your work always make me smile!
ReplyDeleteAlex, your cards are brilliant! I remember thinking how perfect the Breaux Bridge drawing would be on a card or as a print when I first saw it. Congrats for being so organised and getting them made! Awesome. I'm jealous of your library sketch too- I get so frustrated trying to draw people who move halfway through sketching them! You've done a great job, but then you always draw people so well. Oh, and thanks for your many comments on my blog, it's always such a pleasure to find them- I appreciate it :)
ReplyDeleteWow, the cards look great, Alex! I'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree, sketching people in public requires speed. Something I personally don't have enough of when sketching. But you did a great job, each of the people in your sketch have great charachter and personality!
nice sketch of library!! cool style. you have captured their actions very well though they move a lot. i can't do it at all ;p
ReplyDeleteand I love the print outs too. they make invaluable gift!
Ooh, love the pencil sketch, your work goes from strength to strength.
ReplyDeleteAm I too late to join in the postcard fun? I'd love to and I am hoping to have some postcards produced myself fairly soon so could easily return the fun, if you were interested. I'll drop you an e-mail :0)

ReplyDeleteGreat stuff as usual, Alex! And I'd love to get in on the "Breaux Bridge" card if they haven't all been claimed. I'd be happy to trade something as well.
